The Accounts Receivable Strategist supports the organization's Accounts Receivable function and is responsible for day-to-day accounts receivable operations, including invoicing, cash application, collections support, reconciliation, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition across AAFP programs, products, and services. The role applies established GAAP and revenue recognition guidance, partners with Accounting and IT on process and system improvements, and uses AAFP-approved technologies, including automation and AI-enabled tools, to improve efficiency, accuracy, controls, and audit readiness.
When complex or unusual accounting matters arise, this role researches applicable ASC 606 guidance and recommends the appropriate accounting and revenue treatment for review by senior accounting staff.
This role is designed for a self-starter with a solid accounting foundation who will deepen expertise in ASC 606, revenue recognition, and accounting systems over time, with mentoring and oversight from senior accounting staff. We are looking for a curious problem-solver who is comfortable learning new systems, improving processes, and growing into more complex revenue accounting work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- 2–4 years of accounts receivable, billing, collections, and general accounting experience.
- Hands-on reconciliation experience, including deferred revenue analysis.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or a related field — or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and an accounting/ERP or membership system.
- 4+ years of progressive accounts receivable and revenue accounting experience.
- Direct experience applying ASC 606 — identifying performance obligations, allocating transaction price, and determining timing of revenue recognition.
- Contract review experience evaluating pricing and accounting implications.
- Audit support experience (internal and/or external).
- System implementation, testing, or major system upgrade experience.
- Experience using AI or automation tools to improve accounting workflows.
- Familiarity with financial/membership and payment platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication, high attention to detail, and a commitment to data integrity.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to adapt as standards, systems, and technologies evolve.
- Willingness to use AAFP-approved AI and automation tools in accordance with governance, security, and control standards.
Other duties as required
