Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Maintain and develop business relationships with a defined supplier list.
- Find new strategic sourcing opportunities for both ferrous and non-ferrous scrap.
- Proactively solve problems with suppliers on quality, transportation, safety concerns, etc.
- Coordinate support functions across production, shipping and inspection; ensure source control and accurate recoveries.
- Interact with key control positions (scale/kiosk) at scrap processing facilities.
- Travel and face-to-face interaction with all suppliers and customers to develop partnerships.
- Financial aptitude to submit accurate purchasing forecasts and evaluate facility financial performance.
- Handle large supplier accounts with multiple shipping lanes.
- Execute purchase contracts and coordinate shipments using multiple logistics providers (Truck/Rail/Barge).
- Maintain relationships with transportation companies and negotiate freight rates regularly.
- Coordinate with Production teams on buy plans, delivery and shipping schedules while ensuring quality standards.
- Assist in the training and development of the commercial peer group.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- 2 years of experience in procurement or trading of ferrous/nonferrous metals.
- Experience negotiating rates with commercial carriers.
