Construction Assistant Estimator
Responsible for assisting lead estimators with completing estimates that are accurate and competitive. Develops relationships with subcontractors/vendors and seeks new subcontractors to bid work. Assists project team with construction buy-out. This position may require travel to project jobsite locations. Due to this, anyone in this position must have a clean background check and a valid, current driver's license. This position reports to the Vice President.
Assists lead estimators to develop estimates, budgets, quantity surveys and proposals accurately and competitively
Assists with project buyout and assists the Project Managers through construction to project closeout
Attends pre-bid conferences and site visits
Assists with bid day processes and proposal submission details
Assists with risk and opportunity analysis by performing a thorough review of all bidding documents and consulting with all team members
Assists in preparing estimates and provides help in completion of proposal composition and review and modification
Uses construction and estimating software to complete estimates and quantity take-off
Review and understand plans and specifications
Create project schedules for bids and assist in pre-construction, offering assistance for technical plans, budget, risk assessments and other work as needed
Provide critical design review and guidance to Design Team during the entire design process
Cultivate subcontractor and supplier relationships including seeking new relationships, answering inquiries and reviewing scopes of work
Build, maintain and improve relationships with facility managers and construction owners
Bachelor's degree in construction preferred
Design/Build Healthcare estimating experience is preferred
Competent skills with computer programs and on screen takeoff software
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite products and scheduling software
Exhibits high level ability to interpret plans and specifications
Understanding of direct and indirect costs to projects and exhibits a high level of understanding of project scopes and pricing
Scheduling preparation of proposals through proper capacity management, reducing last minute crisis management
Familiar with construction scheduling
Willing to travel for site visits and bid deliveries as needed
Ability to communicate effectively orally and written
Demonstrates a strong work ethic and a professional attitude towards colleagues
Proven initiative, positive attitude, team-oriented, self-motivated and highly enthusiastic
Ability to manage changing priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to a changing business environment
Ability to communicate in person, by phone and electronically
Ability to work on the computer for extended hours
Ability to travel by air, car or train and remain standing for long periods of time and navigate through construction sites
Light physical work; ability to lift, file, stoop up to 10 pounds
Could be subject to loud noises and changes in the environment temperature
