Superintendent 3 – Animal Health / Pharmaceutical Projects
The Superintendent 3 will lead and manage all phases of construction on assigned animal health/pharmaceutical projects of moderate complexity. This includes direct supervision of subcontractors, site operations, safety programs, quality assurance, scheduling, and overall project execution to ensure profitable and timely completion. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders while supporting the company's values, safety culture, and strategic objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Execution
- Manage full life cycle of moderately complex pharmaceutical or animal health construction projects, including start-up, execution, and closeout.
- Lead field supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project support programs (Safety, Quality, EEO).
- Coordinate daily field activities, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to schedule.
- Lead daily standups, weekly trade meetings, and project OAC meetings.
Safety & Quality Leadership
- Enforce JE Dunn's safety culture and protocols; investigate incidents and take corrective actions.
- Ensure quality compliance through specs, QA/QC processes, and industry standards.
Scheduling & Documentation
- Develop, manage, and adjust project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Maintain accurate records including daily logs, unit cost reports, inspection notebooks, and updated drawings.
Team Management
- Supervise construction staff and subcontractors; manage timecard approvals and cost codes.
- Partner with field leadership to determine proper staffing and supervise their performance.
Stakeholder & Client Relations
- Act as the on-site leader representing JE Dunn to owners, architects, engineers, and vendors.
- Support pursuit and marketing efforts through collaboration on presentations and client meetings.
Logistics & Procurement
- Coordinate material, equipment, and self-perform resource needs.
- Assist in equipment/tool selection and approval processes through MOC/DLSC systems.
Risk & Budget Oversight
- Monitor project risk areas; actively manage risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Participate in budget tracking, schedule changes, and financial forecasting processes.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (Preferred)
Experience
- 8+ years of commercial construction experience (Required)
- 5+ years of field supervision experience (Required)
- Proven experience leading animal health/pharmaceutical construction projects > $50M
- Experience implementing Lean construction principles (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, labor productivity, scopes of work
- Proficiency in MS Office, construction scheduling software, and project/accounting systems
- Knowledge of layout, rigging, and crane flagging (Advanced)
- Ability to manage self-perform work and subcontractors
- Strong leadership, communication, documentation, and decision-making skills
- Understanding of JE Dunn-specific construction technology (Preferred)
Working Environment
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to travel or relocate as needed
- Exposure to outdoor/extreme conditions
- Must be available to work non-traditional hours, including nights/weekends, as project needs dictate
