We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our team in support of various projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. This role reports to the Program Director and collaborates with VA client staff to support construction activities, generate reports, and serve as a client-side representative.

Responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring Project Financial Data and Budgetary Cost Accounting – services may include monitoring and review of budgetary cost accounting; administration of construction contract change orders; maintaining spreadsheets indicating project funds allowances, obligations, payments, balances, planned expenditures; assisting in the documentation of construction contract change orders (preparing cost estimates, reviewing cost proposal, preparing change order packages).
  • Construction Phase Scheduling – services may include preparing and maintaining daily dairies for project activities noting events affecting construction; maintaining a current project schedule, coordinating with general contractor and comparing project progress against CM schedule.
  • Progress Meetings – conduct or attend weekly or bi-weekly project meetings to review and monitor projects and project schedules; review construction contractor payment requirements.
  • Assisting in Issue Resolution – keep thorough records of occurrences, contracts, and other construction-related matters to assist client in conflict resolution; schedule, conduct and document regular progress meetings with all interested parties to review project status, discuss problems, and resolve issues.
  • Testing and Inspection Services – monitor the services of an independent testing agency/laboratory to perform project-specific quality control testing and inspection services.
  • Performing Additional Construction Related Services – maintaining marked-up sets of project plans and specifications for future as-built drawings; performing routine inspections; taking action to identify non-conforming work; notifying VA and general contractor; compiling thorough site inspections; monitoring project financial data; assisting in relocation efforts; administration of construction contract change orders (preparing cost estimates, reviewing cost proposal); submittal review; request for information review and responses;

    daily logs of activity; coordination of owner supplied equipment; operational and maintenance data; closeout submittals.
Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of construction work experience; five (5) years preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment or federal contracts is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction practices and ability to apply knowledge to implement plans including QA; safety, time, cost, change, and information management.
  • Familiar with site operations of a general contractor and sub-contractor and the process of managing a building construction operation.
  • Experience in monitoring construction for quality assurance.
  • Experience in preparing, analyzing, and identifying incongruities and deficiencies in contractor work relative to construction documents; understand baseline schedule and assist in determining value of acceptable work in place.
  • Experience with at least three projects of similar scale and difficulty.
  • Communication, language, and software skills to utilize various software programs to monitor, update, and produce work products; compile data and records; demonstrate construction industry knowledge and computer literacy.
Pay Range:

90, USD per year (Kansas City, MO)
