KMBC-TV, the Hearst Television-owned ABC affiliate in Kansas City, is looking for a motivated Digital Content Intern to work with a fast-paced, collaborative team that responds to breaking news and creates engaging content for the station's digital platforms, including the website, app, and social media. You will be a part of a digital team writing articles and creating videos and infographics for local news, weather, sports, entertainment, and community activities with deadlines that change with the news cycle.
This role is in-person 5 days a week out of the KMBC station.
This intern will be part of the Neurodiversity@Hearst program, a paid, full-time 15-week internship program for neurodivergent/autistic talent interested in enhancing their technical skills. From June 2nd - September 12th, 2025, interns will participate in an immersive, hands-on experience at a leading global, diversified media, information, and services company.
What You'll Do
- Assist digital team with social content production including graphics, videos and infographics for stories.
- Help research and write articles to display correctly formatted on the app, website and social media
- Work with reporters and assignment editors to review and confirm that data is accurate before publication. You'll have tools, clear processes, and team support to help double-check information.
- Attention to detail
- Clip and post local news and weather forecast videos to our website, app, and social media platforms.
- Write text to support videos posted from the weekend
- Write concise, accurate headlines and alerts that clearly inform viewers and encourage them to engage with the content
- Monitor other media outlets' digital and social media platforms to pitch content.
- Assist digital team with aspects of video production including holding the camera and r microphone during shoots
- Knowledge of how to create and edit images using Adobe Express or Photoshop for social graphics and collages
- Able to independently write, edit and publish news articles with support for prioritizing work across multiple deadlines
- Experience with or interest in using content management systems, such as Uplynk and websites akin to Word Press, to update website pp
- Interest in or knowledge of measuring performance numbers using Google Analytics
- Strength in following review processes to ensure accuracy
- Experience with digital and social media strategy
- Ability to work under strict deadlines collaboratively with our team
- Working knowledge of Google Analytics
- A background in journalism or communication is helpful but not required. We welcome candidates who have gained relevant skills through work experience, independent projects, or other learning paths, with or without a college degree.
The following experiences are preferred, but not required. We encourage candidates with interested in learning new technologies to apply, even if they don't meet all the qualifications.
- Knowledge of how to create and edit videos in Adobe Premiere. This will enable the applicant to repurpose video from the newscast and r photographers in the field to create short videos for social media.
- Ability to transcribe short clips for captions (occasionally live videos) or social videos
- Interest in or knowledge of measuring performance numbers using Parse.ly and Social News Desk
- Experience with or interest in formatting artificial intelligence to complete word-processing and other tasks
