Part-time, Non-Exempt
The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), a national leader in visual arts and design education, is seeking applications for the position of part-time Artist Model. This position pays $16.50 per hour and hours vary.

Posing for figure drawing, figure painting or sculpture classes as part of the creative process. Artist models pose either in the nude or clothed to provide the human figure in a work of art.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Arrive 15 minutes before class begins.
- Speak with the instructor to determine required poses.
- Inform the instructor if a pose becomes painful or uncomfortable, or if room temperature is inappropriate for nude modeling.
- Do not work without substantial padding or cushions at any time.
- All classes must be properly monitored by a faculty member. If not, contact the Model Supervisor for direction.
There are five major types of poses: gestures, portraits, standing, sitting and reclining.
- Gesture Poses – Short in length, from five to ten minutes, action poses such as dancing, acting, walking, playing, stretching, etc. Rotate poses to give each student a different perspective. Avoid over‑extension and loss of balance.
- Portrait Poses – Head kept still and eyes open. Body may shift as long as torso, shoulders, neck and head remain still. Focal point helps keep the head in place. Mostly seated and clothed.
- Standing Poses – Adequate padding under feet; foam pad and model pad acceptable. Sessions no longer than twenty‑five minutes without a break. Keep balanced, feet shoulder‑width apart, avoid putting too much weight on one leg or hip, do not lock knees.
- Sitting Poses – Watch for limbs or body parts that lose circulation or fall asleep. Avoid extreme bending or turning. Not all sitting poses require a chair; may use stands, stools, blocks, cushions.
- Reclining Poses – Twist or turn in torso and hips. Adequate padding under hips. Do not keep an arm raised for extended periods. Follow model break schedule and avoid posing for longer periods.
- Previous work experience in a collegiate environment preferred.
- Previous experience in performing arts preferred.
- Previous experience in artist modeling preferred.
- Equivalent combination of work and education.
