The UMKC School of Dentistry seeks a full-time, 100% FTE faculty member to serve as Department Chair of Restorative Clinical Sciences. This is a ranked faculty appointment, with rank, (tenure-track or ranked non–tenure track), and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. For candidates seeking appointment on the tenure track, application materials must include evidence of sustained scholarly activity consistent with School and University expectations.
UMKC School of Dentistry is the only public dental school in Missouri. Our alumni account for roughly half of all practicing dentists in Missouri. The Department of Restorative Clinical Sciences encompasses the full scope of general dentistry and predoctoral prosthodontics. The department supports didactic, preclinical, and clinical education in operative dentistry, dental biomaterials, treatment planning, fixed and removable prosthodontics, and comprehensive restorative patient care. Through close integration with predoctoral clinics, the department plays a central role in preparing students to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care across diverse clinical settings.
The Department Chair provides leadership for the vision, strategic direction, and long-term growth of the Department of Restorative Clinical Sciences in alignment with the mission and priorities of the School of Dentistry. The Chair is responsible for overseeing departmental operations, faculty and staff supervision, curriculum management, and fiscal stewardship. This role includes mentoring and evaluating faculty; providing input on promotion, tenure, reappointment, and merit processes;
and ensuring high-quality didactic and clinical education across the full scope of general dentistry and predoctoral prosthodontics, including operative dentistry, biomaterials, treatment planning, and restorative care.
The Chair works collaboratively with Team Leaders, Clinical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and other clinic leadership to support effective clinical education, patient care, and faculty development. Responsibilities include managing departmental curriculum and academic workload assignments, aligning teaching responsibilities with clinical operations, ensuring compliance with CODA accreditation standards and institutional policies, and supporting faculty scholarship and professional growth. The Chair communicates regularly with the Dean, participates in school leadership and committee meetings, and serves as a key liaison between departmental faculty and School administration.

This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) faculty appointment eligible for tenure and/or ranked promotion. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, and experience.
