The Opportunity

We are seeking an Urban Design summer intern to contribute to our collaborative design studios. This position will be in our Kansas City office location. In this role, you will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the planning, urban design, and regulatory challenges of the built environment, at the various scales of the city. You will participate in a variety of projects, including comprehensive and visioning plans and urban design plans, development regulations, and site and development planning.

  • Can analyze, ideate, organize, and prepare innovative planning and regulatory documents, including comprehensive plan, urban design documents, zoning or unified development ordinances, and other documents.
  • Can translate community needs and aspirations to regulatory standards and codes, with an emphasis on urban design.
  • Can provide intellectual curiosity and support to a growing and evolving planning and design studio to affect the quality of communities and cities.
  • Can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
We seek people who value the responsibility of design, humbly engage many, pursue ideas with rigor, and seek meaningful outcomes both big and small. Currently, our 130+ employees collaborate across our Studio and office locations. Our practice's core values embrace equity, diversity, and creative freedom.

If this sounds like you, please submit your resume and electronic portfolio. We look forward to getting to know you!
