Generator Studio is looking for a Design Intern. Are you the one?
The Role:A Design Intern assists on a wide range of project types. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in earning their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design or from an accredited program. The ability to work effectively as a team member on a variety of tasks, including design, modeling, drawing, and documentation, is paramount. This internship bridges the gap between academic studies and professional practice, offering students hands‑on experience, exposure to various aspects of the field, and opportunities to refine their skills.
It’s not just about fulfilling required hours—it’s a foundational step toward becoming a successful designer.
- Work on a great mix of sports + entertainment venues, nonprofit offices, hotels + restaurants, commercial developments and even luxury residential projects. We work with clients like Live Nation, Pacifica Hotels, the Chicago Black hawks, and the Kansas City Current. It’s high profile and high fun.
- Incredible design opportunity. We’ve carved a distinct niche with our portfolio of both sports and non-sports work that offers elevated design thinking – from shaping skylines to boutique hotel design, iconic sports + concert venues to intimate spaces. We deliver it steeped in each client’s unique brand essence and purpose.
- Gain hands‑on experience and technical skills through a big variety in project types and opportunities that you wouldn’t get at a larger firm. Work on all stages of a project from start to finish.
- Be surrounded by the best. We hire right, not fast. For us, that means hiring only people who are committed to design excellence and will thrive in an entrepreneurial culture that celebrates individuality and hard work. We also celebrate Thursdays with happy hour.
- You’ll be exposed to different roles within our firm, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge while learning new tools and techniques.
- Mentorship is a vital part of your internship. Often, your mentor will be a Senior Designer or Project Manager who oversees your work, provides feedback, and ensures you’re meeting professional standards.
- Work where the action is. Our office is in the KC Crossroads, surrounded by galleries, shops, restaurants and cultural happenings. Artists and creatives live and work here. We’re also on the streetcar line, making the commute to work free and accessible.
- Free Milk Bones! If your dog is nice, they can come to work, too.
- Hair band Fridays. {scissors kick}
- Champion good design. Advocate for maintaining a healthy design culture where all are engaged, collaborating and advancing design. Make us better.
- Solve problems. Anticipate and identify problems and resolve issues that arise throughout the process.
- Produce presentations and documentation. Create materials for new business opportunities you will participate in.
- Sometimes work independently, other times highly collaboratively with team members. Work closely with Project Managers, Project Architects, and others to support the design process including designing, drawing, modeling, and documenting.
- Impact all stages of a project, schematic through construction.
- Make timely changes from review sessions.
- Community clearly and practice professional email etiquette, ask questions, and contribute to team discussions.
- Embrace every assignment as a chance to grow, seek feedback, and build a strong foundation for your budding career.
- Eat, sleep and drink design. You love design, the iterative design process and have the ability to conceive and develop multiple design concepts.
- Are currently enrolled in earning your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited program.
- Know Revit and Adobe well. Demonstrated skills in Revit, Adobe Creative Cloud (primarily Photoshop and InDesign) are preferred. Must have at least working knowledge of Enscape and Lumion.
- Multitask and make magic. Ability to work on multiple projects and effectively balance workload.
- Have a flexible working style, at times working independently and at…
