PURPOSE OF JOB:
The position of our Communications Administrative Intern is a unique opportunity for high school students interested in a career in communications, media, or journalism. Over the course of our eight-week summer intern program, student interns will work directly with the North Kansas City Schools Communications Department under the supervision of professional staff. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior leadership.
This is an eight-week position: one week of training and seven weeks within the North Kansas City Communications Department. Student interns are also encouraged to attend training sessions in late May/early June.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Writing for print and digital media such as websites, newsletters, social media, etc.
* Photography and other visual production such as graphic design.
* Video production or other audio-visual work.
* Assists in event planning and marketing.
* Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
* Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
* Student interns will be required to take an online virtual/Canvas course (eCareer Connections) that will guide the internship learning experience for all students (i.e., How to complete a resume, internship reflections, etc.). Students can receive an elective credit for this course.

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of up to 50 pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
June & July 2026
* Student intern positions are full-time over the program eight weeks __no benefits or paid time off are provided.
* Student interns are expected to work every day from Monday through Thursday during the summer hours of 8:45 am-2:45 pm or 9:20 am - 3:20 pm (Times will depend upon summer school site location start times.)
* Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from work site. Transportation may be an option in the month of June if a student lives within a bus route for a summer school site and/or within our Central Office route.
* Compensation: $15.00 per hour

EVALUATION:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance-Based Administrator Evaluation process.
