Position: Early Education Neighborhood Supervisor (De La Salle location)

Job Summary

Ensure that the Early Childhood Program fosters an educational environment for all children to be treated as individuals according to Head Start and Early Head Start regulations, Missouri State Licensing Regulations, Missouri Accreditation and NAEYC Regulations. Facilitate developing children’s health, mental health, nutrition, social and cognitive needs to the highest level possible through mentoring relationships with teachers, individualized planning for children and partnering with families.

Serve as role model and guide teachers through open, supportive and direct interaction.

Qualifications
  • The Education Supervisor position requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related degree with thirty (30) hours of Early Childhood Education coursework with related experience. (Transcripts required).
  • Pediatric and Infant CPR, AED and First Aid Certified or willing to become certified.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure communication, implementation, process improvement and maintenance of Head Start and Early Head Start Standards, state childcare license standards and accreditation standards with teachers and staff.
  • Arrange and participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences as prescribed by Head Start and Early Head Start and Center policies and procedures; acquaint parents with program activities; developmentally appropriate practices; program objectives, determine and communicate needs of each child; interpret curriculum.
  • Compile an accurate classroom inventory, as prescribed by center and Head Start Staff guidelines, with assistance from the teaching staff.
  • Set staff work schedules and supervise staff arrival and departure, breaks and lunches.
  • Formulate professional development plans with teachers based on observation and assessment information.
  • Provides ongoing communication that appraises, and provides general feedback assuring that teachers understand expectations and have the support required to be successful assuring for professionalism including:
  • Sharing teaching strategies or information about early childhood teaching and caregiving
  • Giving guidance about discipline, scheduling, planning, and organizing the day and other topics as provided for in regulations and best practices
  • Keep ongoing count of children in classrooms and maintain appropriate staff to child ratios
  • Participates in the development of original and review of existing learning materials, selects and organizes the actual materials to be used in the classroom assuring appropriateness.
  • Complete weekly "Quality Checks" on classrooms to assess classroom compliance and progress in teaching practices
  • Exhibit mastery over the purpose and use of current assessment tools and systems in place
  • Share information with all departments involved in the developmental progress of the children as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate. Facilitate teacher completion child assessments as assigned, including DECAs, Assessment and Outcomes and Child Individualizations
  • If necessary, coordinate and facilitate parent meetings in which discussion of a child’s individual needs is warranted
  • Participate in and facilitate parent education opportunities during classroom parent activities a minimum of once monthly. This includes bi-annual parent/teacher conferences, preschool graduation, etc.
  • Facilitate regular communication between classroom and home.
  • Oversee child transitions among classrooms to ensure DAP is followed and that there is communication with the family
  • Demonstrates good role modeling for other employees in time, on task and hours on site
  • Language, behavior and communication skills that are consistent with respectful and professional practice
  • Promote communication, warmth and respect among all staff and volunteers
