This position will be located at 4750 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO
. May to Mid
- August with the potential for more hours in the fall and spring. Hours will vary but will generally be between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Some early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and overnight travel will be required.

The employee shall be expected to work between 20 and 40 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours total within a 12-month period. Some weekends and evenings included depending on scheduled events / necessity.

• This is an entry-level interpretive staff role.
• Give interpretive programs in Kansas City Region focused on reaching underserved populations.
• Plan and conduct interpretive and recreational programs.
• Assist with the promotion of agency sites and programs.
• Assist with special events held across the state.

• Experience in creating and giving educational or recreational programs or experience with public speaking and a willingness to learn how to create and give programs.
• Have at least 10 college credit hours in biology, wildlife, natural resources, parks and recreation, history, archaeology, anthropology or closely related field.
• Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. The office provides a vehicle for getting to outreach events and all staff will be required at some point to drive that vehicle.
• Must be able to work some weekends, early mornings and late evenings.
• Must be able to work outside in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to attend the Missouri State Parks Spring Interpretive Training School held at Babler State Park from May 17th to May 20th. Transportation and meals will be covered by the KCAO.
• Must be willing to obtain a NASP Archery Instructor Certification, (free).
• Adhere to the uniform policy. Uniform shirts will be provided.

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

• Will gain knowledge in planning a program, constructing promotional materials, and engaging underserved populations in outdoor activities.
• Employee will gain contacts with multiple agencies and across the state.
• Common programs the employee will be involved in hiking, birding, camping, archery, paddling, fire starting, Dutch oven cooking, tours, fairs, special events, and nature crafts.
