Purpose of JobThe Mentoring Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with school building principals and site-based mentoring coordinators in overseeing the district-led youth mentoring program, including managing the operations and processes that enhance the mentor and mentee experience. This role will provide high quality volunteer management, engagement and program development to ensure attainment of program goals set by the district. This role will work to uncover and assess program challenges and improvement needs, and determine efficient and effective solutions on an ongoing basis.
WhatYou'll Be Doing (Responsibilities)
- Research and stay current on industry best practices for volunteer management and the positive impacts of mentoring to continually develop systems to integrate and enhance the mentoring initiative.
- Manage mentoring programs through the supervision of district personnel and adult volunteers in their mentoring matches with students.
- Develop protocols for schools on how to provide good customer service and support to volunteer mentors.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Student Experiences to design an evaluation strategy for monitoring mentoring activities.
- Provide Training, Complete Supervision and Oversight of Mentoring Relationships:
- Recruit:
Make presentations regarding the mentoring program and the need for more volunteer support. - Screen Mentors:
Discern an individual’s qualifications for mentoring through the screening, orientation, and matching processes. - Equip Mentors:
Train mentors to fully prepare them for their mentoring matches with students. - Onboarding Mentors/Mentees:
Ensure program participants receive a timely, proper and thorough onboarding experience from the site-based coordinator. - Support Match:
Maintain regular and consistent contact with each volunteer. - Guide Match:
Provide guidance and a smooth transition for mentoring matches as unexpected support needs arise. - Serve Family:
Function as a liaison between the parent, mentor, and site based coordinator. - Document:
Prepare data impact reports. - Events:
Plan and participate in ongoing mentor program and Postsecondary Access Department events and recognitions.
- Recruit:
- Communicate with district personnel and community members in understanding the mentoring program goals and objectives.
- Generate publicity for the mentoring program and community awareness through collaboration with the district's communications office.
- Support Postsecondary work through participation in student engagement activities at the direction of the Officer of PASS.

- Bachelor’s Degree in education, nonprofit administration, youth services, human development or related degree.
- Previous experience coordinating volunteers, program development or youth mentoring.
- Passion for mentoring and youth services.
- Visionary commitment to the KCPS Mentoring Program strategy.
- Intermediate skills in various computer software & data management systems.
- Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to write reports and professional correspondence with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to skillfully create presentations using various applications, database and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to utilize and navigate volunteer management software and the SIS system.
- Strive to be “solution-focused” and present recommendations that best meet the needs of the district.
- Self-motivated, able to work alone or in a team.
- Must pass all applicable background screenings. Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance from the state in which you reside. Must be approved to drive for KCPS business.
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Three (3) Years of experience leading and/or developing mentor programs
