Job DescriptionREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current junior or senior in the North Kansas City School District.
- Genuine interest in education, childcare, or program management.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital communication tools.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
- Experience in planning or coordinating events and activities.
- Basic understanding of child development and safe childcare practices.

REPORTS TO: School Age Child Care Director
PURPOSE OF JOB: The School Age Child Care Summer Intern position offers a unique opportunity for high school students interested in education, childcare, and program administration. Interns will work with the School Age Child Care team to support the daily operations and enrichment activities of our before and after school programs. This eight‑week internship provides hands‑on experience in creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment for school‑age children while strengthening community connections.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Support:
Assist in planning and executing daily activities and enrichment programs for children enrolled in School Age Child Care. - Child Engagement:
Support staff in supervising and engaging with children to ensure a safe and nurturing environment. - Activity Coordination:
Help develop creative and educational activities that promote learning, social interaction, and physical well‑being. - Communication:
Create and distribute promotional materials (flyers, emails, social media posts) to inform parents and community members about program events and updates. - Administrative Tasks:
Maintain attendance records, organize supplies, and assist with scheduling to support smooth program operations. - Team
Collaboration:
Participate in daily meetings and collaborative planning sessions with School Age Child Care staff. - Additional Duties:
Perform other tasks as assigned by School Age Child Care staff to contribute to the overall success of the program.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: June & July 2026
- Student intern positions are full time over the program eight weeks. No benefits or paid time off are provided.
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour
SAAC Intern Schedule — Summer 2026 General
Schedule:
- SAAC Interns work Monday through Friday during summer hours. Hours vary by site, particularly at elementary locations. Work hours in June and July will not exceed 8 hours per day. The workday begins at 7:00 AM.
June 2026
Schedule:
Monday - Thursday: 7:00 AM-9:00 AM and 3:00-6:00 PM
Friday: 7:00 AM — 4:00 PM (with a one-hour break)
July 2026
Schedule:
- Hours will vary based on scheduled field trips.
FLSA: Non-exempt
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance-Based Administrator Evaluation process.
