Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering – Tenure‑Track

The Division of Energy, Matter and Systems (EMS) in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the University of Missouri‑Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applicants in the areas of experimental fluid mechanics, microfluidics, and soft and complex materials for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to start in Fall 2027. Candidates with emerging expertise in these fields that have strong prospects for extending our sponsored research program are encouraged to apply.

The new faculty member will play an important role in the MSE and biomedical engineering programs, and research is expected to secure continuous external funding and lead to novel applications in fluid dynamics, health engineering, environmental modeling, microfluidics, and biology‑on‑a‑chip devices.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
  • Commit to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and related areas.
  • Engage in discipline, division, school, or university services appropriate to the position.
  • Advance the goals and strategic plans of SSE and UMKC.
  • Qualifications

    All candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with postdoctoral experience.

    Salary & Benefits

    Salary is commensurate with credentials, evidence of, or potential for external funding and experience. This is a nine‑month, benefit‑eligible, full‑time (1.0 FTE) appointment that is eligible for promotion.
