Job Description
The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri‑Kansas City is continuously seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate general education courses offered by UMKC Essentials in the following areas:
Critical Thinking, Civic and Urban Engagement, and Culture and Diverse Perspectives. Faculty may also contribute to the First Semester Experience course. Courses are taught in face‑to‑face, online/synchronous, and online/asynchronous modalities. Hours and modalities vary by course.
- Use a variety of evaluation methods.
- Use the early alert system to identify students at risk of failing, when applicable (UMKC Connect).
- Provide students with prompt, objective, fair feedback on their work.
- Assign grades and maintain student records in accordance with university policy.
- Master’s degree or higher in a field aligned with one of SESWPS’s four departments (Educational Leadership, Policy and Foundations; Psychology and Counseling; Social Work; Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies).
- Graduate coursework, professional experience, or other training related to the specific UMKC Essentials course(s) being taught.
- Demonstrated commitment to the SESWPS Mission and Vision.
- Previous experience teaching at the university level.
- Familiarity with various online management systems (e.g., Canvas).
- Previous experience teaching online coursework, if applying to teach online sections.
A flat adjunct salary is determined based on the number of courses being taught. Adjustments may also be made due to class size.
BenefitsThis part‑time, unranked academic position is not eligible for university benefits. Individuals in a non‑benefit‑eligible position may choose to participate in the Tax‑Deferred Annuity Plan (403(b)).
