In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. This state‑of‑the‑art engineering, manufacturing and sourcing facility produces a wide array of intricate components to deliver trusted national security products and government services primarily for the NNSA. Summary

The Chemical Engineer III role is a professional level position performing complex engineering functions on assigned or initiated programs, projects, or sub‑projects of a specific nature by applying advanced mathematical, physical science, and/or engineering technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the design and/or project/process management of new and current products, programs, components, tools, and acceptance equipment in collaboration with higher level technical experts.
  • Develops test procedures and performs complex engineering evaluation tests, product and process capability studies, quality audits, product or project data reviews, and other engineering evaluation work.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, and makes recommendations for product, test equipment, procedures and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.
  • Defines and acquires tooling, gauging and other equipment necessary to manufacture/inspect parts to assure product quality.
  • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex design, development, production, and acceptance issues.
  • Initiates evaluation and provides input regarding technological advances that improve productivity and quality, reduce flowtime, and enhance operational surety.
  • Recognized as an emerging subject matter expert within the business unit.
  • Provides mentorship, advice, and insight to other employees to ensure project and product compliance.
You Must Have
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program or a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from an accredited program.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on‑site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for the position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, mathematical computations, computer software applications, and written documentation.
  • Demonstrated established technical methodologies to routine engineering projects.
  • Experience working with or in Product Realization Teams (PRTs).
  • Systems Engineering Experience – knowledge of requirements compliance and verification.
  • Experience with defect and/or predictive failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of material sciences or materials compatibility.
  • Understanding of basic Risk Management principles.
