P&C Settings Engineers support Evergy's protection and control (P&C) systems by performing fault studies, developing relay settings, and performing fault event analysis. Additionally, they may assist with developing relay panel drawings, troubleshooting of P&C systems, and in-service testing. P&C Settings Engineers also develop relaying philosophy and standards to enhance fault isolation and response times; and to meet NERC PRC compliance requirements.
As part of this team, you'll work closely with Relay Technicians, P&C Design Engineering, and Substation Maintenance and Construction teams.
Minimum education level of Bachelors of Science from an accredited university, including coursework in three-phase power. Minimum 4 years experience in performing calculations and setting transmission system protection relays preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required- Knowledge of per unit calculations.
- Understanding of schematic, wiring, and logic diagrams.
- Knowledge of Generation, Transmission and Distribution system relays and associated protection schemes.
- Experience using PSSE, ASPEN One-Liner, CAPE, ETAP, or equivalent fault analysis software.
- Experience utilizing communication relay schemes such as directional carrier blocking and permissive overreach transfer trip.
- Knowledge of NERC system protection standards preferred.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
- Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Working ConditionsNormal office working conditions. Requires some field work within energized substations, operating powerplants, utility right-of-ways, and construction sites in general. Overnight business travel is atypical.
