Downstream Engineer Job Description

Provide installation support, maintenance, and training of downstream equipment.

• Support installation and maintenance of downstream equipment.
• Assist with new layouts and designs, providing necessary studies and information.
• Train and provide troubleshooting assistance to maintenance staff and operators on new equipment.
• Ensure plant personnel can independently maintain newly installed production lines.
• Work on continuous improvement projects to help improve performance and meet plant KPI goals.
• Develop setup processes to ensure repeatable results, including documentation and step‑by‑step instructions.

• Proficiency in packaging and manufacturing equipment.
• PLC troubleshooting skills.
• AutoCAD design experience for equipment layouts.
• Project management experience.
• Hands‑on experience with packaging and automation equipment such as robotic palletizers, sorting systems, labelers, carton erectors, and vision systems.
• Ability to support and coordinate basic project activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to train hourly production employees.
• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
• Experience operating or troubleshooting machine vision systems.
• Basic PLC troubleshooting skills (verifying inputs/outputs).
• Ability to troubleshoot low voltage electrical systems (24 VDC and 120 VAC).
• Familiarity with conveyors, vibratory bowls, closing machines, and assembly equipment.
• Understanding of networking connections used in industrial equipment.
• Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

• Two‑year technical degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Packaging fields.
• Three or more years of experience in a related manufacturing or automation role.

Work primarily on the manufacturing floor and in an office, as part of a smaller team of 1‑2 other downstream engineers and downstream technicians. Regularly lift 10 lbs, frequently move up to 30 lbs, and occasionally move up to 50 lbs.

This is a Permanent position based out of Kansas City, MO.

The pay range for this position is $70,000.00 – $80,000.00/yr.
