Job Summary
Our office is currently seeking a full‑time Structural Engineer Practice Leader to support our structural team in Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate will have experience in building structural design projects and performing complex planning, analysis, design, and construction administration for all structural aspects of building projects.
ResponsibilitiesRegular job duties include design and detailing of building type structures such as reinforced concrete, pre‑stressed concrete, steel, light gauge steel, wood, earth retaining systems, and light industrial structures. The candidate must accurately perform complex engineering tasks, extract engineering information from CAD and REVIT drawings, and complete assignments such as developing drawings, specifications, and other materials for procurement and construction purposes.
Additionally, the role requires leading the structural design of small to medium‑sized projects, mentoring entry‑level staff to produce construction drawings, and communicating effectively with senior‑level staff and clients. Team collaboration with engineers from multiple disciplines and a professional yet personable demeanor are essential.
- Effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Understanding of engineering principles essential to lead and perform engineering designs.
- Minimum 10+ years of structural design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering (advanced degree preferred).
- Professional Engineer licensed in at least one state (ability to obtain additional licenses within 6 months preferred).
- Experience in plan development, analysis and design calculations, quality control of building structures, and familiarity with IBC, AISC, ACI, AISI, NDS, and state‑specific codes.
- Proficiency with software such as Mathcad, RISA, Enercalc, ETABS, SAP
2000, and related engineering tools. - Seismic design experience preferred.
- Experience with design‑build and alternative delivery methods preferred.
- Ability to travel for business if required.
Salary Range: $140,000 – $175,000 + depending on experience and qualifications.
