We are seeking a Director of Engineering to join our leadership team. This position is responsible for overseeing all engineering, maintenance, and facility operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, asset preservation, and guest comfort. The Director of Engineering plays a critical role in protecting the hotel's physical assets, maintaining compliance with brand standards, and supporting operational excellence across the property.
The Director of Engineering provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all engineering and maintenance functions of the hotel. This role oversees building systems, preventive maintenance programs, capital improvement planning, vendor management, life safety compliance, and engineering team development. The successful candidate will be an experienced hotel engineering leader with strong technical expertise, financial acumen, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing the Engineering department
- Recruiting, training, coaching, and retaining a high-performing engineering team
- Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems
- Ensuring all equipment and infrastructure operate efficiently and reliably with minimal downtime
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving the hotel's preventive maintenance program
- Protecting the long-term value of the hotel through effective maintenance and asset management practices
- Developing and managing departmental budgets, labor expenses, utility costs, contracts, and maintenance expenditures
- Leading capital planning efforts
- Managing contractor and vendor relationships
- Serving as the hotel's Life Safety leader
- Supporting emergency preparedness efforts
- Partnering with operational departments to support guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and hotel performance
- Ensuring appropriate engineering coverage and on-call support to meet operational needs
Required qualifications include:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in a full-service hotel environment
- Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar leadership role
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, and life safety systems
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing departmental operations
- Experience managing budgets, forecasting, expense control, and capital planning
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, blueprints, and operational procedures
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Preferred qualifications include:
- Marriott brand experience
- Experience supporting luxury, lifestyle, or full-service hotel operations
- Experience with dual-branded or multi-property hotel environments
- Experience managing capital projects, renovations, or major system upgrades
- Relevant technical certifications or licenses
Schedule requirements include:
- Being available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities as business needs require
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position
- The hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
