About the Job

Electrical Designer

As an Electrical Designer, you will support various phases of project development, including planning, site evaluations, analytical design, proposal documentation, report generation, specification development, and preparation of construction documents and electrical drawings. This role will take the lead on diverse projects across multiple sectors, contributing to a wide range of design efforts for a variety of clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design a broad range of electrical systems, including schematics, grid layouts, electrical power distribution, lighting, protection and control systems, and site/facility electrical layouts.
  • Adhere to all applicable design, drafting, and documentation standards set by the company, clients, and specific projects.
  • Plan and prepare drawing packages for production, including conducting analysis, developing layouts, and performing complex calculations on non-routine assignments.
  • Complete electrical design tasks using standard techniques, such as determining drawing sequences, component sizing, and refining initial sketches.
  • Revise existing designs or drawings based on redlines or mark-ups during project execution.
  • Analyze drawings, test data, and technical reports to support project planning and design decisions.
  • Interpret and apply design codes and technical specifications to meet project requirements.
  • Review design documents for quality, consistency, and accuracy while staying within scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
  • Perform calculations for conduit fill, grounding layouts, wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics.
  • Organize and manage project drawings, revision history, plot files, and related documentation in a structured, accessible format.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing when coordinating with project teams and clients.
  • Perform additional duties as needed in alignment with project and company objectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in drafting technology or a related field and at least 7 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Associate degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience; OR
  • 9 years of progressive design and detailing experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Advanced proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong aptitude for learning and applying new design tools and technologies.
  • Experience with both 2D and 3D design applications;
    Smart Plant 3D experience is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and systems.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering practices across disciplines and the ability to use discipline-specific software for design execution.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams including engineers, project managers, and fellow designers to resolve design issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and a sharp eye for detail.
