Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Kansas City, MO area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role requires ensuring exceptional quality on all projects, working directly with clients and maintaining the company’s reputation for high‑quality work. The engineer will gain expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, field data collection, and client design standards.
Location& Travel
This position has remote‑working capabilities, but candidates must be located within commuting distance of Kansas City, MO. The selected candidate will be expected to attend in‑person meetings and assignments on an as‑needed basis throughout the customer territory.
Responsibilities- Assist in oversight of your team's design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers and perform individual design tasks and QC efforts.
- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make‑Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as DDS, GDT, GE Small world, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
- Collaborate with other design leads on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control.
- Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work; conduct scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Review engineering design packages with clients.
- Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up.
- Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards in client design deliverables.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, including work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited program; relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

$73,450.00 - $. The pay range is a general guideline only and is not a guarantee of compensation. Compensation may also reflect responsibilities, experience, education, and other factors.
