Internship OverviewAs an intern you’ll put your engineering learning into practice through field visits, office work, and projects. You’ll be involved in special projects, job shadowing, and real work both in the office and out in the field, gaining exposure to FM’s training program for consultant engineers, on‑demand learning sessions, and risk‑management standards.
Experience and Training- Attend FM training on building construction, occupancy, protection, and exposures (COPE) related to risk assessment and mitigation.
- Learn the fundamentals of fire protection systems.
- Shadow FM Consultant Engineers during property visits, performing hands‑on site assessments of roofs and buildings.
- Review mechanical and electrical equipment operation, installation, maintenance, and loss‑potential hazards.
- Make recommendations and engineering solutions to improve client risk.
- Document risk analysis of visited locations.
- Lead and deliver a technical project assigned by FM supervisors.
- Shadow professionals across FM departments to gain a holistic understanding of the company and engineering team.
- Participate in professional development events with other interns.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Efficient time‑management and enthusiasm for delivering projects.
- Physical ability to climb commercial ladders, inspect roofs, lift more than 25 lbs., and work in confined spaces.
- Proficient in MS Office products.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle access throughout internship.
- Available to work full time during the summer internship.
The hiring range for this position is $23.00 to $27.00 per hour, varying by geographic location, education, skills, and experience.
