Staff Instrument & Controls Engineer
Staff Instrument & Controls Engineer needed to join design teams on grassroots and revamp refining/chemical projects across the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) lifecycle. This Instrument & Controls Engineer role spans Front-End Planning (FEP), Detailed Design, and Construction phases, requiring expertise in DCS, PLC, CEMS, and instrumentation specification.

- Full-time position with 25% travel (mainly project site visits)

Key Responsibilities – Instrument & Controls Engineer
- Prepare instrumentation deliverables:
Instrument Index, Data Sheets, Installation Details, Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams for DCS and PLC systems - Design control systems and CEMS documentation; participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with third-party vendors
- Develop P&IDs and perform process measurements (temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, control valves)
- Prepare I&C purchase specifications, bid reviews, and vendor technical recommendations
- Lead preliminary sizing calculations for orifice plates, control valves, relief valves, and thermowells; mentor less experienced engineers
Qualifications – Instrument & Controls Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (ABET accredited) + 3 years applicable engineering experience (consulting preferred); OR Master's Degree + 2 years experience
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques, P&IDs, and I&C principles
- Proficient in Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) for instrument datasheets
- Excellent written and verbal communication; demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving
- Microsoft Office proficiency; strong attention to detail and team collaboration
Preferred Qualifications – Controls & Instrumentation Specialist
- Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification
- Experience with DCS and PLC systems in refining or chemical plants
Physical Requirements – Instrument & Controls Engineer
- Ability to travel to project sites 25% of the time; extended site stays may be required during construction phases
- Occasional on-site inspection and field verification work
- Valid driver's license required; must obtain or possess Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
