In the role of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) Technical Coordinator, we'll count on you to:
- Support ITS and traffic management system projects involving planning, engineering, design, systems integration, deployment, operations and maintenance, communications, and construction support.
- Assist with projects involving Transportation Systems Management and Operations, Advanced Traffic Management Systems, Transportation Management Centers, Advanced Traveler Information Systems, managed lanes, connected and automated vehicles, and associated performance measures.
- Prepare ITS plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, systems engineering analyses, ITS architectures, and other systems engineering documents under the direction of senior staff.
- Support the design of fiber-optic and wireless communications systems, conduit and pull-box systems, power distribution, traffic signal systems, CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs, vehicle detection, roadside equipment, transit signal priority, tolling systems, and related field equipment.
- Prepare equipment schedules, network diagrams, quantity calculations, design details, technical specifications, and other project deliverables.
- Apply applicable national ITS standards and support projects involving open-road tolling, active traffic management, connected vehicles, smart mobility, and emerging transportation technologies.
- Participate in field inventories, site visits, equipment testing, system acceptance activities, construction support, and project deployment activities
- Coordinate with roadway, traffic, electrical, communications, survey, utility, and other multidisciplinary project teams.
- Assist with data analysis, technical research, grant applications, reports, presentations, proposal development, and industry initiatives.
- Participate in client and project meetings and support the development of client relationships under the direction of senior staff.
- Support the continued growth of HDR's ITS and transportation technology practice locally and nationally.
- Perform assignments under the supervision of a professional engineer and progressively assume greater technical and design responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
- Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
- Previous internship, academic, or professional experience involving transportation, traffic engineering, electrical systems, communications systems, or intelligent transportation systems.
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment.
- Familiarity with Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD, GIS, or similar engineering and design software.
- Familiarity with fiber-optic and IP-based communications networks.
- Interest in traffic signal systems, automated traffic signal performance measures, connected vehicles, transportation data analytics, and emerging mobility technologies.
- Experience working with or supporting state departments of transportation, local government agencies, or federal clients.
