Project Manager
Kansas City, KS (40% Travel)
Direct Hire

The Project Manageris responsible for leading large-scale industrial automation projects valued between $5M–$10

Mfrom order acknowledgment through final customer acceptance.

This role serves as the primary liaison between the customer and internal project teams, overseeing every phase of robotic automation projects, including system definition, layout approval, scope management, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, risk management, and customer communication.

The Project Manager partners with cross‑functional mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget. This position also requires regular travel to customer and third‑party vendor sites for project meetings, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects from order acknowledgment through customer acceptance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between customers and internal project teams.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meet quality and safety expectations.
  • Support Project Manager Level III on larger initiatives when assigned.
  • Conduct customer site visits to gather, verify, and clarify project requirements.
  • Establish project priorities and customer specifications.
  • Create and maintain system layout drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Generate detailed Design Request documentation.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables including layouts, electrical drawings, functional specifications, and schedules.
  • Delegate shipping, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Develop and maintain project Risk Assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Update Risk Assessments monthly.
  • Lead monthly Steering Group meetings covering:
    • Cash flow
    • Project margins
    • Schedule
    • Percentage complete
    • Major project risks
  • Communicate project budgets and schedules across internal departments.
  • Participate in monthly executive project review meetings.
  • Create purchase specifications for third‑party equipment.
  • Manage project change orders.
  • Participate in System Safety Risk Analysis activities.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support "as-built" system resolution.
  • Ensure complete project documentation prior to customer acceptance.
  • Lead customer run‑offs and internal acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate transition to Customer Support.
  • Support warranty issues when necessary.
  • Lead Post Mortem meetings following project completion.
  • Document lessons learned and process improvements.
  • Ensure project closeout documentation is complete.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

3–7 years of Project Management experience within:

  • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Automation
  • Engineering
  • Robotics
  • Experience managing large capital equipment or automation projects.
  • PMP Certification is preferred.
  • Industrial automation systems
  • Robotic automation projects
  • Mechanical design
  • Basic electrical design
  • Pneumatic controls (preferred)
  • AutoCAD (2D)
  • Microsoft Project
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook
