Job Summary

The Staff Distribution Designer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects. The Staff Distribution Designer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
  • Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
  • Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
  • Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
  • Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.
  • Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
  • Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
  • Distribution background and experience (must be demonstrated on resume).
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of related/relevant experience required; OR
  • Associate Degree with a minimum of 8 years of related/relevant experience required; OR
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience required.
  • Note:

    A Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution is not eligible for this position.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of related/relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field; OR minimum 8 years with an Associate Degree; OR minimum 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience with a High School Diploma.
  • Must have distribution background and experience (must be shown on resume).
Important Notes
  • Background check required (process takes 3–6 weeks).
  • This is a contract-to-hire position.
  • Eligible for flex 9/80 scheduling.
  • Internship experience does not count toward years of experience.
  • Under Education on resume, "Completed" must be listed next to the highest degree earned.
