Accompanist - Substitute
The job of Accompanist is done for the purpose of providing support to the vocal music program with specific responsibilities for providing piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performances; assisting with classroom clerical tasks; and serving as an instructional resource for students and teachers in the area of fine arts.
Essential Functions- Accompanies solo and ensemble classes, concerts, musicals, and/or clinics for the purpose of playing full and sectional accompaniment.
- Analyzes assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g. correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of rehearsal time and performance schedules.
- Assists the Choral Instructor with clerical responsibilities (e.g. music library, etc.) for the purpose of supporting instructional activities.
- Assists the teacher in supervising student activities for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of class time and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Exhibits professional and appropriate stage etiquette for the purpose of serving as a model of professionalism at music productions.
- Prepares recorded rehearsal tracks for students for the purpose of at home accompaniment.
- Responsible for cataloging, updating, and organizing the music library for the purpose of ensuring that resources are well maintained.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of instructional support.

Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: recording technology, established audition standards; voice ranges; key transpositions; and variety of musical styles.
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: piano playing; sight reading music; and working with large groups, solo vocal instrumentals and choral singers.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.
Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; hearing mistakes in music performances; and working as part of a team.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include:
working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, 10% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience:
Job related experience within specialized field is required in accompanist.
