Tek Com Resources is seeking an OSP Enginer for a direct-hire in the Kansas City area!
The OSP Engineer I supports the design and development of FTTH and OSP networks, focusing on basic routing, field validation, and low-to-moderate complexity design tasks. This role assists senior engineers, QA/QC, and drafting teams while learning engineering standards, client requirements, and constructability principles.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop basic OSP/FTTH design packages including routing, preliminary LLDs, splice diagrams, and construction sheets under guidance. Conduct field assessments to validate routing, measure clearances, verify utilities, and identify obstacles. Interpret field notes and convert them into accurate design updates. Perform initial analysis for underground and aerial routes following engineering and client standards. Collaborate with drafters to finalize design sheets and ensure proper documentation.
Apply QA/QC feedback and revise work accordingly. Maintain consistent version control and design documentation structure. Identify simple design conflicts and elevate appropriately. Conduct occasional field visits to validate design assumptions, confirm routing paths, and assess real-world conditions. Document field observations through notes, photos, and basic measurements as needed to support design accuracy. Travel to project locations when required to support engineering decisions or resolve design questions.
Collaborate with field teams to understand site conditions and ensure designs reflect actual constructability. Participate in field reviews when engineering clarification or onsite verification is necessary.
Required Basic understanding of OSP/FTTH engineering concepts and routing principles. Ability to read and create engineering drawings. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Willingness to perform fieldwork in various conditions. Good communication skills and collaborative mindset. Proficiency or willingness to learn engineering software (CAD/GIS platforms). Preferred Experience in telecom, utilities, fiber construction, or related engineering fields. Familiarity with NESC, RUS, local permitting processes, or utility coordination.
LevelExpectations & Work Environment
