Assistant Civil Designer
Our client is seeking an Assistant Civil Designer to join their growing engineering team in Kansas City, MO. This is an excellent long-term contract opportunity for an early-career civil design professional looking to gain experience on a diverse range of infrastructure, land development, and utility projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will contribute to the planning, design, and preparation of construction documents for projects serving a variety of industries and clients.
Responsibilities- Assist in the design and development of civil engineering projects, including:
- Site development
- Land development
- Roadway design
- Storm drainage systems
- Stormwater management facilities
- Water and sanitary sewer utilities
- Sediment and erosion control
- Traffic control plans
- Airport and facility site design
- Prepare civil design drawings and construction documents using industry-standard CAD software.
- Assist with drawing production, design layouts, calculations, and engineering documentation for projects of varying complexity.
- Develop initial design concepts, sketches, markups, and revisions for ongoing projects.
- Analyze reports, maps, surveys, drawings, and topographic or geologic data to support project planning and design.
- Interpret and apply applicable engineering codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Perform excavation, grading, dredging, and earthwork volume calculations.
- Support project schedules, budgets, and design criteria throughout project execution.
- Maintain organized drawing files, revisions, plot files, and project documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary project teams to resolve design issues and meet project objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned while complying with all company safety policies and quality standards.
- One of the following is required:
- Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field with at least 2 years of related experience; or
- Associate degree with at least 3 years of related experience; or
- 4+ years of progressive civil detailing and design experience.
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, and Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of civil engineering design principles, calculations, and drafting practices.
- Familiarity with civil site development, utility layouts, grading, drainage, and related engineering disciplines.
- Ability to interpret engineering standards, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple drawing revisions and project files.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience supporting land development or infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to utility, transportation, municipal, or aviation projects.
- Familiarity with civil engineering design standards and permitting requirements.
