The Finance Manager plays a critical operational role in ensuring the organization’s financial systems, records, and compliance obligations are accurate, timely, and reliable. Reporting to the Director of Finance & HR, this role is responsible for day‑to‑day financial operations and serves as a key stabilizing force in a fast‑moving nonprofit environment.
This position is best suited for someone who is independent, resilient, detail‑driven, and comfortable operating with a high degree of responsibility and trust. The ideal candidate is not flustered by complexity, ambiguity, or competing deadlines and can prioritize, problem‑solve, and follow issues through to completion without excessive oversight.
Responsibilities:- Own and manage daily bookkeeping operations, including accounts payable and receivable, bank and account reconciliations, allocation of restricted funds, and monthly close activities.
- Maintain accurate and audit‑ready financial records in compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal policies.
- Coordinate audit preparation, tax filings, and external financial reporting in partnership with the Director of Finance & HR.
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation.
- Track grant expenditures and support grant reporting to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
- Identify discrepancies, inefficiencies, or process gaps and take initiative to resolve them or propose improvements.
- Serve as a reliable financial resource to leadership and staff, translating financial information into clear, actionable guidance.
- Manage routine administrative and operational finance functions with consistency and follow‑throug
- Financial records are accurate, current, and defensible without last‑minute scrambles.
- Problems are identified early and addressed directly.
- The Finance Manager is trusted to handle issues independently and escalates appropriately when needed.
- Highly detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through and personal accountability.
- Comfortable working independently and making judgment calls within established parameters.
- Able to manage multiple priorities without becoming overwhelmed or reactive.
- Direct, professional communicator who asks questions early.
- Process‑minded, with the ability to improve systems rather than work around them.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit accounting, grants management, or comparable regulated environments (e.g., public sector, legal, healthcare).
- Hands‑on experience managing bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliations, and financial compliance.
- Proficiency with cloud‑based accounting and operational systems.
- Strong ethical compass, with a commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- Alignment with the organization’s mission and values, including cultural competence and respect for the communities served.
