At Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), we believe that youth aren’t just the “leaders of tomorrow” - they are the changemakers of today. Since 1987, we’ve empowered over 300,000 YVC youth volunteers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Uganda to serve their local communities. Through YVC, youth ages 11-18 engage in team-based service experiences that build life and work skills while inspiring a lifetime ethic of service.
The headquarters of our international network of youth development programs is located in a beautifully restored home built in 1874 in the Quality Hill District of downtown Kansas City. The RoleAs YVC enters a period of exciting growth and strong financial integrity is a must, our Director of Accounting will be the financial heartbeat of YVC. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll manage our $2M budget and ensure our financial integrity is rock-solid as we enter a period of exciting growth! You won’t just crunch numbers. You’ll be a strategic advisor, helping us make a bigger impact.
WhatWe Hope You Bring to YVC
- The Foundation – Have an accounting degree or significant, relevant accounting experience; be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien. If you know nonprofit accounting, grant compliance/restricted funds, Quickbooks Online, and have proficiency with Excel, you’ll hit the ground running. If you have human resources experience (hiring, performance management) that is a bonus because you will enhance the value you bring to YVC!

- Prepare annual $2 million organizational budget. Assist with development of program budgets and grant budgets.
- Prepare accurate monthly financials in collaboration with external accounting firm.
- Prepare financial and management reports and variance explanations for the CEO and the Board. Provide financial insights, data analysis, and serve as a financial advisor to the CEO.
- Oversee online payments for summer program participation, monthly invoices/checks (minimal), and credit card payments. Oversee receipt and processing of deposits (minimal).
- Complete a monthly quality review of GL coding, journal entries, and restricted fund releases. Review monthly bank reconciliations completed by accounting firm.
- Monitor income and expenses on an ongoing basis. Prepare actual expense projections.
- Maintain accurate records of restricted funds and ensure grant compliance. Advise accounting firm on appropriate release of restricted funds. Ensure an accurate net asset roll-forward schedule.
- Manage YVC compensation through Paycor. Process and submit semi-monthly payroll. Gather and submit quarterly payroll tax paperwork to payroll company. Work with state and federal entities for any withholding tax issues/questions.
