With more than $180 million in assets, Public Safety Credit Union in Kansas City, Missouri, is seeking a Collector. As Collector, the primary objective is to assist our members in resolving their financial struggles using exceptional listening and communication skills. This position is also responsible for preserving the credit union's assets by maintaining monthly and yearly delinquency and charge-off standards.
Essential Duties- Perform activities necessary to collect delinquent loans, overdrafts and negative balance accounts by: making contact with the delinquent member, establishing a payment plan and receiving and posting payments within the policies and procedures of the Credit Union.
- Ensure maximum recovery on delinquent accounts to the Credit Union while maintaining positive member relations.
- Locate and notify members of any delinquent loan or negative accounts in order to solicit payments.
- Maintain and process late payment notifications according to the Credit Union collection procedures.
- Responsible for processing and sending all legal notifications as required by law for collection or repossession purposes.
- Recommend to management those loans and negative accounts to be charged off per the policies and procedures of the Credit Union.
- Manage the disposition or handling of collateral that is repossessed according to the credit union's policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit uncollectible loans and negative accounts for litigation.
- Coordinate communications and negotiations with outside counsel, credit reporting agencies, members, and other outside agencies regarding account delinquencies.
- Maintain working knowledge of all state and federal collection regulations.
- Actively utilize the Credit Union’s core system to record information and collection activities.
- Contribute to a teamwork environment.
- Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of all member information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Organize and prioritize multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines.
- Punctuality, dependability, and good attendance are required.
- Interact respectfully, professionally, and compassionately with members.
- Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality of work.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in financial services is preferred.
- Collection experience preferred.
