Surgical Technologist support patient care in the perioperative setting by assisting surgeons and nursing staff before, during and after surgical procedures. • The role of the Surgical Technician is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies.
• The Surgical Technician in Surgery provides care for adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
• The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
• The Surgical Technician understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
• The Surgical Technician has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
• When the Surgical Technician is in the second scrub role, they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera.

• Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
• CORT preferred
• BLS required
• One to two years previous OR experience preferred
