Position Summary

The Laboratory Support Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory support team, ensuring efficient workflow, compliance with safety and quality standards, and accurate execution of laboratory support functions. This role involves supervising staff, coordinating resources, and collaborating with laboratory scientists and managers to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Team Management
- Lead, schedule, and supervise Laboratory Support Technicians and Assistants.
- Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for support staff.
- Ensure staff adherence to safety, quality, and operational protocols.
Laboratory Operations
- Oversee daily laboratory support activities, including specimen handling, equipment preparation, and maintenance.
- Monitor workflow to ensure timely support for research, testing, and diagnostic operations.
- Address and resolve escalated technical and operational issues.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all laboratory support functions meet quality standards and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct regular audits of laboratory practices and documentation.
- Implement corrective actions for deficiencies in workflow or compliance.
Resource & Inventory Management
- Manage procurement, inventory control, and allocation of laboratory supplies.
- Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate vendor services when needed.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and biological samples.
Data & Reporting
- Oversee accurate recordkeeping and data management of laboratory support activities.
- Prepare reports on operational efficiency, staffing, and resource utilization.
- Support laboratory leadership with data analysis and recommendations.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with laboratory scientists, managers, and administrative teams.
- Act as the primary liaison between laboratory support staff and management.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and process improvements.

Qualifications

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field.
- Advanced training or certification in laboratory operations is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong background in laboratory support functions, equipment handling, and inventory management.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, biosafety, and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in laboratory software and reporting systems.
