Platform Engineering & Operations Manager Role Description
As the Platform Engineering & Operations Manager, you will own the Azure-hosted infrastructure, reliability, security, and Dev Ops capabilities that support our SaaS products, .NET Core Server Apps, and AI services. The role delivers high autonomy and includes day-to-day ownership of our multi-region Azure estate, published reliability and security commitments, Dev Ops environment, customer-facing technical assurance, and a small internal Microsoft 365 estate.
Working closely with Product Development—especially during the migration of our Server Apps to .NET Core—and with the AI Engineer (Strategy) on production AI workloads, you will shape how our platform scales, runs reliably, and gives customers confidence.
This role suits someone who thrives in a growth-stage SaaS environment, can flex across architecture, operations, security, developer enablement, AI, and internal IT, and wishes to build and lead an infrastructure and platform team as the company expands.
Responsibilities- Take day‑to‑day ownership of the Business Optix multi‑region Azure estate (UK, EU, US, AUS, plus Azure US Gov) across capacity, cost, performance, and security baselines for production and non‑production environments.
- Deliver against the platform's published SLAs (target 99.95% availability, with documented RPO/RTO commitments) – owning incident response, observability, monitoring, post‑incident reviews, and root cause analysis.
- Lead the maintenance, testing, and continuous improvement of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery policy to reflect the matured Azure estate.
- Execute the day‑to‑day operations of our ISO 27001‑aligned ISMS – including internal and external assurance testing, supporting customer security questionnaire responses, the IT Supplier Management Process, and audit preparation for surveillance and recertification cycles.
- Chair the Business Optix Cybersecurity Council, owning operations and governance.
- Own the Azure Dev Ops environment in collaboration with Product Development – pipelines, build/release tooling, deployment automation – and drive developer enablement for frictionless build‑deploy‑release paths.
- Partner with Product Development to support migration of customer tenants to the .NET Core Server Apps, including cutover tooling, rollback paths, and validation.
- Provide the platform and infrastructure foundation for the AI Engineer (Strategy) to design, build, and run production AI pipelines (Azure AI Foundry, Assistants APIs, Xano, Unstructured.io, etc.).
- Administer the Business Optix Microsoft 365 estate – user, license, identity, and Intune/MDM management – and handle pragmatic Tier 2 internal IT support.
- Act as custodian of the Business Optix Technical Pack and supporting compliance documentation.
- Represent the technology function in customer architecture and security conversations, communicating technical decisions and risks clearly to non‑technical and senior stakeholders.
- Mentor junior technology hires, build runbooks, playbooks, and operational rituals, and grow into formal line management of an infrastructure and platform team.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, engineering standards, and best practices across the platform and its operations.
- Design and execute the longer‑term direction for Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations, and Internal IT (including potential development of a dedicated team or outsourcing) as the company grows.
In the course of business, other duties will be assigned to this position. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
