Overview
UMB’s Enterprise Cloud Architect team was recently formed to streamline and accelerate adoption of the Cloud. The team provides self‑service means to empower other teams to deploy cloud‑native platforms while ensuring security, governance, architectural best‑practice, cost containment, and control. As a Cloud Engineer you will heavily participate in defining the organization’s cloud platform strategy, designing enterprise cloud solutions, and enabling cloud adoption across the business.
This involves combining architecture vision with hands‑on cloud engineering to align technical decisions with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in defining enterprise cloud strategy (AWS), reference architectures, and design patterns.
- Build and operate AWS environments, including hands‑on provisioning.
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using Terraform.
- Adhere to governance frameworks, technology standards, and architectural principles.
- Communicate architectural vision to executive, technical, and business audiences.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing cloud architecture (AWS) for enterprise environments.
- Proficient with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform), AWS Cloud platform, AWS Cloud security, identity and compliance (IAM, VPC, etc.), AWS Network fundamentals (VPC design, routing, NLB, ALB, API Gateway, etc.), and containerization (Docker).
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- Strategic thinking mindset balancing delivery with long‑term vision.
- Proficiency in Agile/Scrum.
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification
- AWS Dev Ops Engineer Professional Certification
- Additional cloud certifications
- Banking/financial services industry experience
- Development experience, especially with .NET
- AWS Enterprise Support or Well‑Architected Review experience
- Event‑driven architecture (Kafka, Kinesis)
- Microservices and API design
- Kubernetes advanced management skills
- IDE experience

Compensation ranges vary by geographic location and experience level: US Employees in California, Washington DC, New Jersey, and New York: $100,710 – $157,630;
Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin: $91,950 – $144,320; all other states not listed above: $83,200 – $131,000.
