Data Engineering
As a Senior Fabric Data Engineer, you will serve as a senior individual contributor within Covenant’s Data & AI practice, executing the build and delivery of modern, analytics-ready data solutions on Microsoft Fabric. Working against architectures and designs owned by Covenant’s Data & AI architects, you will turn an established design into trusted, governed, and performant data products—operating independently with minimal oversight across the full delivery lifecycle.
This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on execution rather than solution design, partnering closely with architects, fellow engineers, analysts, and client stakeholders.
The work location for this role is flexible if approved by Covenant except this position may not be performed remotely from Colorado and California.
Responsibilities- Build and optimize analytics‑ready data models and pipelines on Microsoft Fabric—including One Lake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Factory, and Notebooks—implementing them against the target architecture and design.
- Develop and maintain modular, version‑controlled transformation logic in SQL and PySpark, applying medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architecture and engineering best practices.
- Implement and tune semantic models and Power BI datasets—including Direct Lake—to deliver governed, performant gold‑layer outputs for client stakeholders.
- Use AI tooling to accelerate your own development, and implement Fabric’s AI‑enabled features (such as Copilot in Fabric and Power BI) where the solution design calls for them.
- Implement data quality, testing, lineage, and observability so that delivered solutions are accurate, reliable, and production‑ready.
- Apply data governance and security practices—Microsoft Purview, One Lake security, and role‑ and row‑level access controls—as defined by the solution design.
- Work fluently within established CI/CD, Git, and Fabric deployment workflows, delivering changes through the team’s Dev Ops practices without additional coaching.
- Produce concise, professional technical documentation and lead knowledge‑transfer sessions for clients and internal teams.
- Contribute to Covenant’s internal delivery standards and accelerators, and stay current on the evolving Microsoft Fabric platform.
- Core data engineering (depth):
Microsoft Fabric—One Lake, Lakehouse, Notebooks, and Data Factory pipelines. - Languages and processing (depth): SQL, Python, PySpark, and Apache Spark.
- Transformation and storage (depth): medallion architecture, Delta Lake, Parquet, and modular, version‑controlled transformation patterns.
- Gold / serving layer (working competence):
Power BI and semantic modeling—Direct Lake, DAX, Tabular—sufficient to build and validate gold‑layer outputs. - Broader Fabric surface (familiarity):
Fabric Data Warehouse and Real‑Time Intelligence;
Fabric AI features such as Copilot in Fabric and Power BI; and use of AI tooling to accelerate development. - Governance and Dev Ops (familiarity):
Microsoft Purview; and working within Git, CI/CD, and Fabric deployment pipelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Microsoft DP-700 Fabric Data Engineer Associate strongly preferred. DP-600 Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate and PL-300 Power BI Data Analyst Associate are a plus; the DP-900 and AI-900 fundamentals are also valued.
- 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence, including 3+ years on the Microsoft data platform.
- Demonstrated track record of independently delivering production data engineering solutions end‑to‑end against a provided design, with minimal oversight.
- Depth in data engineering on Microsoft Fabric (or a comparable lakehouse platform): pipelines, notebooks/Spark, medallion transformation, and Delta; hands‑on Fabric and/or Azure Synapse experience.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with a solid understanding of dimensional modeling and modern ELT patterns.
- Working competence with Power BI and semantic modeling (Direct Lake, DAX) sufficient to build and validate gold‑layer outputs; this is not a…
