Department:
County Counselor (Missouri County in KC Metro Area)
Grade: 300NM
Salary: DOQ - Salary Dependent on Qualifications (up to $100k + excellent benefits + qualifies for law school loan forgiveness after 10 years)
Job Duties- Responsible for the initiation, prosecution, and defense of civil litigation on behalf of the County, including the defense of civil claims brought against the County, Merit Commission cases, civil commitments in probate court, and other legal matters
- Must have the knowledge, experience, and ability to perform litigation at every stage of civil proceedings, including taking and defending depositions, motion practice, and trial work. Provides guidance, legal advice, and assistance to County departments, directors, and staff regarding legal issues, human resources issues, personnel rules, and employment law
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university of law.
- Three to Five years of civil litigation experience.
- Must be a member of the Missouri Bar Association or ability to waive in.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
