We’re looking for an experienced Green Goods Nursery Buyer with strong horticultural knowledge, purchasing expertise, and a keen eye for plant quality to lead the sourcing and procurement of plant material for our landscape projects. This role requires someone who understands plants, knows the nursery industry, and can build strong vendor relationships while balancing quality, availability, timing, and cost.

The Opportunity

As Green Goods Nursery Buyer, you’ll play an important role in ensuring our teams have the right plant material, at the right quality, at the right price, and at the right time.

You’ll work closely with estimating, purchasing, production, and project management to anticipate plant needs, strategically source material, negotiate pricing, and coordinate delivery to active projects. You’ll develop and maintain relationships with wholesale nurseries and growers, identify reliable sources for plant material, negotiate pricing, coordinate deliveries, and help ensure the plants arriving on our job sites meet Hermes’ standards.

What You’ll DoPlant Purchasing & Strategic Sourcing
  • Source and purchase trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and other plant material from reputable nurseries, tree farms, and growers
  • Review project plans and specifications to determine plant needs, quality, and timing
  • Obtain competitive pricing, negotiate with suppliers, and identify substitutions as needed
  • Research and compare suppliers to secure competitive pricing, volume discounts, favorable terms, and the best overall value
  • Build and maintain relationships with wholesale nurseries, growers, and suppliers
  • Monitor plant availability, pricing, lead times, seasonal market conditions and inventory
  • Coordinate plant deliveries and maintain accurate purchasing and vendor records
  • Partner with project teams to forecast plant needs and secure seasonal or hard-to-find material in advance
Quality & Plant Knowledge
  • Inspect plant material for quality, health, size, and specification compliance
  • Use strong plant identification knowledge to support purchasing and substitutions
  • Partner with project teams to quickly resolve plant material or availability issues
  • Identify plant quality concerns, including signs of disease, pests, damage, or other issues
Contract & Project Administration
  • Support the review and processing of contracts, change orders, and project documentation
  • Maintain accurate project records and track required documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers, customers, subcontractors, and internal teams
Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who understands both plants and purchasing. Someone who knows plants, understands the nursery market, and can make purchasing decisions that support quality, project schedules, and profitability.

  • 3+ years of green goods purchasing, nursery, horticulture, or landscape industry experience preferred
  • Strong plant identification and horticultural knowledge required
  • Knowledge of plant species, specifications, sizing, quality standards, seasonal availability, and growing conditions
  • Experience with purchase orders, inventory tracking, and coordinating plant material logistics
  • Experience sourcing from and building relationships with wholesale nurseries, growers, and suppliers
  • Strong purchasing and negotiation skills with the ability to evaluate quality, availability, logistics, and cost
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape plans, plant schedules, and project specifications
  • Experience with contracts, project documentation, or construction administration is a plus
