Salary Range
: $32 - 36 hourly (varies depending on experience and property location)

Key Role Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Building Engineer who takes pride in keeping facilities safe, efficient, and running at their best. This role handles day-to-day building operations, maintenance, inspections, and contractor oversight to support a clean, functional, and welcoming environment for tenants and guests.

Building Operations & Safety

  • Follow all applicable codes, regulations, safety standards, and internal directives related to building operations.
  • Inspect and monitor major building systems, including fire alarms, HVAC (chillers, pumps, VFDs), plumbing systems (pumps, backflows), and lighting, to ensure proper function and comfortable environmental conditions.
  • Maintain an energy management approach that emphasizes efficient operation and cost control.
  • Assist with fire and evacuation drills.

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Review assigned work orders, estimate materials and time needed, and complete repairs.
  • Decide whether repairs can be handled in-house or require outside vendors.
  • Perform preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance as assigned.
  • Quickly respond to emergency calls, including nights, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Change light bulbs and ceiling tiles, clear clogs, test emergency light fixtures monthly, and complete weekly checks of vacant suites.
  • Maintain and water floor drains and traps in restrooms and kitchens on a weekly basis.
  • Keep maintenance, telecom, janitorial, electrical, and penthouse spaces organized and clean.

Contractor Oversight

  • Coordinate and inspect work performed by outside contractors such as landscaping, snow removal, plumbing, HVAC, remodeling, and cleaning vendors.
  • Monitor grounds daily to keep parking lots, landscaping, and building entrances clean and presentable.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Maintain strong relationships with tenants and internal teams, responding to concerns with professionalism and urgency.
  • Communicate updates, potential maintenance needs, and supply replenishment needs to senior team members.

Construction & Projects

  • Support senior team members with construction coordination, including tenant build-outs, repairs and maintenance projects, and capital improvements.

Other Duties

  • Follow all company policies, safety requirements, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing company training programs.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 5 years of commercial maintenance experience (preferred)
  • Previous experience with HVAC systems
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of general maintenance (i.e. electrical, plumbing and appliance repair)
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills
  • Valid driver license and any other licenses/certifications required by the state
  • Flexibility to work on-call and weekends as needed
