Safety Specialist

Greater Kansas City, MO area (South of Kansas City)

Salary dependent on experience plus bonus potential, profit sharing, three weeks of vacation, 401K match and benefits day one of employment!

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, improve and regulate the site safety, health and environmental policies and processes
  • Keep updated documentation related to safety policies and regulations
  • Assist with creating and delivering safety and environmental training to team members
  • Operate as a shop floor liaison and promote a safety‑oriented culture
  • Participate in Lean and Kaizen activities and directives for the plant
  • Complete accident investigations and reports
  • Ensure all PPE is on site and available as needed
  • Lead the emergency response team
  • Support the EHS Manager with Worker's Compensation
  • Perform new hire orientation safety training
  • Utilize a learning management system (LMS) for training documentation
  • Complete needed safety and environmental testing

    Ensure all paperwork is completed and filed accurately
  • Assist with the recycling program
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned

Candidates should be eager to learn, able to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment, enjoy building relationships on the manufacturing floor, be process improvement minded and have excellent problem‑solving skills. Individuals should enjoy spending 50‑60% or more of their time on the manufacturing floor, requiring candidates to be able to walk 2‑4 miles daily as needed.

Requirements for the Safety Specialist
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with at least 1‑3 years of similar safety work experience
  • Experience supporting safety initiatives in manufacturing environments
  • Experience completing accident investigations
  • Experience performing safety training, with a willingness to create training and deliver it to large groups
  • Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Skills Preferred but NOT Required
  • CSP and/or GSP certifications
  • Experience with a learning management system (LMS)
  • First Aid/CPR certified
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Project management
  • Working knowledge of behavior‑based safety programs
