The Coffee Production Floor Manager oversees daily coffee manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and food safety and workplace safety protocols are consistently met. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Coffee Operations, Assets and Facilities and manages the day-to-day work of the production floor team, coordinating with maintenance, quality assurance, and supply chain to keep the roasting, blending, and packaging lines running efficiently.
The role is accountable for staffing and scheduling the floor, monitoring production performance, and driving continuous improvement across the production line.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee daily coffee production activities — roasting, blending, grinding, packaging, and fulfillment — to meet output, quality, and delivery targets.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate production floor employees; manage shift staffing, coverage, and daily work assignments.
- Enforce workplace safety standards and OSHA compliance; lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Follow and enforce all GMPs, lean manufacturing practices, and organic and food safety certifications.
- Monitor key performance indicators (throughput, downtime, scrap and shrink rate, labor efficiency, on-time fulfillment) and report results to leadership.
- Identify and implement process improvements using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement principles.
- Coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime on roasters, grinders, and packaging equipment and to ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
- Partner with quality assurance to resolve defects, non-conformances, and customer complaints tied to production.
- Manage the flow of green coffee, packaging materials, and finished goods in collaboration with the warehouse and supply chain teams.
- Prepare production reports, staffing plans, and performance analyses for leadership review.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement on the production floor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, labor regulations, and industry standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the day-to-day work of the coffee production floor team. This position customarily and regularly supervises two or more full-time production employees, or their equivalent, including assigning and scheduling work, directing daily activities, training, monitoring performance and productivity, and administering breaks and overtime. There are no subordinate supervisors reporting to this position.
The incumbent's recommendations regarding hiring, advancement, promotion, corrective action, and termination of production floor employees are given particular weight by the Senior Manager of Coffee Operations, Assets and Facilities.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITYAccountable for managing labor hours, overtime, consumables, and production supply spend within the approved departmental budget, and for reporting variances. This position has no independent purchasing or contracting authority; departmental budget preparation and any expenditure outside of established limits are handled by the Senior Manager of Coffee Operations, Assets and Facilities.
