Full‑time, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., varying nights with every 3rd weekend, holiday requirement, no on‑call requirement
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Eligible to practice as determined by State Board of Nursing
- Less than one year of experience working as an RN
Pre‑licensure graduate of an accredited nursing program who actively participates in SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Under the direction of an RN preceptor, provides age‑appropriate care to patients with a wide variety of medical conditions.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements- Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, including age‑appropriate admission or transfer assessment and post‑op/post‑invasive procedure assessment.
- Obtains input from family or guardian when appropriate and documents findings accurately and completely.
- Assesses and documents education and discharge needs on admission and throughout hospitalization.
- Provides patient reassessment and documents pertinent observations, changes in condition, and response to care.
- Establishes, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, diagnoses, lab results, procedures, physician orders, and protocols.
- Identifies short‑ and long‑term goals, formulates nursing interventions, incorporates evidence‑based practice, and documents interventions.
- Collaborates with the health‑team to coordinate daily care plans, provides and communicates patient care, including Handoff Communication Reports.
- Administers and documents medications accurately, monitors IV fluids and parenteral nutrition, and completes referrals as indicated.
- Requests consultations for special needs and equipment, provides patient/family education, and clarifies physician orders.
- Assists physicians with procedures or delegates to a Care Partner as appropriate, and documents “Readback” for all telephone and verbal orders.
- Recognizes changes in patient condition, involves family or guardian, and applies infection control practices.
- Documents or communicates changes in patient condition and recognizes risks for patient and takes appropriate action.
- Performs ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care and education, and modifies plan of care as needed.
- Provides specialized care for patients at high risk for injury, restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment, following established protocols.
- Adheres to all quality and performance standards, participates in learning experiences, attends staff meetings, and contributes to committees and governance activities.
- Provides mentorship and supervision to new employees and serves as a resource for peers and the health‑care team.
- Follows safety and infection control policies, practices standard precautions, and performs job duties using safe patient‑handling techniques.
- Maintains current license and certifications, annual TB screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, and other required safety trainings.
- Provides cost‑effective services by utilizing resources efficiently, prioritizing responsibilities, and documenting chargeable supplies.
Minimum Education: RN licensure in the State of Missouri or new graduate of an accredited nursing program who must obtain licensure within 6 months of graduation.
Working Conditions: May be exposed to blood‑borne diseases, unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illness), irregular hours, emergency and crisis situations.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking; occasional lifting, positioning, pushing or transferring patients; occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, coughing.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) (required or within 90 days)
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – within 3 months of NCLEX pass (required or within 90 days)
