Job Description

Position Overview:

The LPN at KIPP Kansas City works under the direction of the Director of School Health and school leadership to support student health needs throughout the school year. This individual will provide first aid, administer medication, and help promote a safe and healthy school environment. The LPN will also be responsible for maintenance of the health services office and student health records in compliance with state regulations and KIPP Kansas City policies.

Implement

the School Health Program
  • Provide basic nursing care, first aid, and illness/injury triage according to established school health protocols and district policy.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and RN delegation and supervision.
  • Monitor and assist students with chronic and acute health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies) as directed by the RN.
  • Carry out nursing interventions and observations for students with special health care needs per established care plans.
  • Maintain the health office, supplies, and equipment.
Medication Administration & Health Monitoring
  • Accurately document medication administration and nursing interventions.
  • Observe students for medication effects or adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to the RN.
  • Support safe medication storage and handling procedures.
Health Screenings & Prevention
  • Assist with vision, hearing, and other required health screenings per protocol.
  • Support communicable disease prevention and control measures as directed.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and drills (e.g., seizure response, cardiac emergency response protocols).
Health Records & Communication
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records in compliance with state regulations and school policy.
  • Communicate health‑related information to families and staff in a professional, compassionate manner within established guidelines.
  • Ensure student health plans and emergency action plans are accessible to appropriate staff as directed by the RN.
  • Work collaboratively with the RN, administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporting laws.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development.
Supervision & Scope of Practice
  • The LPN practices under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or licensed physician, as required by Missouri law.
  • The LPN does not independently assess, develop care plans, delegate nursing tasks, or supervise unlicensed staff.
  • All nursing activities are carried out in alignment with RN direction, established protocols, and applicable law.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Missouri.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience in pediatric, school health, community health, or related settings.
  • Familiarity with school‑based health services and documentation practices.
