Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-recognized teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry experience and both Kansas and Missouri (or compact) RN licenses.

Details
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
  • 13-week contract
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a 456-bed tertiary care hospital
  • Patient population includes pulmonary, wound, urology, general cardiac, general neuro, and general renal diagnoses
  • Standard patient ratio of 1:5; may flex to 1:6 on rare occasions
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • Charge RN assignments required as needed
  • Holiday coverage required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Block scheduling not available
  • Charting via Epic (required)
  • Free on-site parking
Requirements
  • Active MO RN license and KS RN license, or a valid Compact RN license — both must be in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Required skills:

    telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV therapy and phlebotomy, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care and management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, PCA management, IV insulin protocols, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
  • Preferred skills: cardiac telemetry, management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response/code teams, tracheostomy care, CVA management, feeding tube care, renal failure management, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and surgical drain management
  • SSN required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor-level or above; the second may be a charge RN — all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
  • Candidate must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

  • Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have an 18-month gap with at least a 3-month break in service before returning as a traveler; permanent BJC/Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before working as a traveler at any BJC facility
  • Candidates must be willing to float between departments, units, and facilities; unwillingness to float may result in contract cancellation
  • Pre-start compliance modules are required (approximately 10–15 hours total), due the Monday one week prior to start
  • Epic EMR training is required pre-start; candidates may choose to complete the Epic test-out option or the Epic training module
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
  • No local candidates accepted; candidates with a home address within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible
