American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel assignment specializing in orthopedic and high-acuity post-operative care at a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital.
Details- 13-week contract with day shifts (6:45 AM–7:15 PM), 3x12-hour schedule
- PCU setting within a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-recognized teaching hospital
- Orthopedic-focused patient population including post-op ortho trauma, total joints, ORIF, laminectomy, hand surgery, bladder suspension, and select GYN and eye surgeries
- Standard patient ratio of 1:5; may flex to 1:6 on rare occasions
- High patient turnover unit with a large volume of daily admits
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- Day shift schedule requiring 8 weekend shifts (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combinations) per 6-week schedule period
- On-call required: 1–2 weekday shifts per week and 2 weekend shifts per 13-week contract
- Floating may be required between departments, units, and other PCU floors as needed
- Special equipment includes traction, braces, casts, crutches, doppler, walker, hemovac, PICC line, mid line, Alaris pump, and PCA
- Free parking available on-site
- Active MO RN license or Compact RN license; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or a Compact license) must be in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, PICC line management, and IV starts
- Experience with PCA medication management
- Orthopedic skills including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
- Experience with surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- SSN required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Charge RN assignments may be required as needed; prior charge experience is preferred
- Holiday shift coverage is required as assigned
- Candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility are not eligible for this position
- Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
- RTO is capped at 7 days; all RTO must be finalized prior to consideration — no additional RTO or schedule requests will be accommodated after that point
- Candidates who have previously worked at BJC or Saint Luke's as permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers must have an 18-month break with at least a 3-month gap in service before being eligible to return
- Pre-start orientation includes Epic modules (candidates may choose the Epic test-out option or Epic module) as well as infusion pump and glucometer training
- No travel experience required — first-time travelers are eligible to apply
