American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PCU night shift position requiring 1-2 years of recent telemetry experience and a MO or compact RN license.
Details- 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit treating intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow (TURPs, lap chole, lap appy, lap hernia, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, wound care)
- Fast-paced unit supporting patient throughput from the ED and OR
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
- Patient ratio of 1:5, with rare flexing to 1:6
- Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
- Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as needed
- No on-call requirement
- Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
- Not open to block scheduling
- Active RN license required (Missouri or compact)
- Kansas license also required in hand at time of consideration due to floating needs
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- 1 to 2 years of telemetry experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Previous charge RN experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Skills required:
cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, use of Rapid Response Teams, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, IV therapy/phlebotomy including port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, starting IVs, heparin protocols, PCA administration, CVA management, oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face mask, portable tank), isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac management - Preferred skills: insulin drip titration, renal failure management, ortho trauma and total joint replacement care, surgical drain management, tracheostomy care, and eye surgery experience
- Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
- Provide telemetry-level nursing care to intermediate medical and post-surgical patients
- 5-time Magnet-designated, teaching, Level I Trauma tertiary care hospital with 456 staffed beds
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- Candidates must complete Epic training module or test-out option, along with infusion pump and glucometer training prior to start
- RTO limited to a maximum of 7 days, finalized at time of consideration with no changes after offer
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
- Local candidates not accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility
- Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a travel clinician
- Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
